where is a great camping ground in southern california?

My friends and I want to go camping, but we don't know where. We want some place that you can drive your car onto the ground and pitch a tent next to it. Reservations for a spot would also help. Does anyone know a place?

lake isabella is the best, also kern river

look at the state park websites. there plenty of information concerning the locations and its surrounding.
