What kind of shoes do you pack to go beach camping or do you just spend most of your time barefoot?

Posted in Beach Camping  by admin on December 1st, 2008

It is in North Carolina.
It is suposed to be warm the entire time (mid-60s – high 80s).

I only pack footwear when it's freezing, no matter what I'm doing. Even then I've not needed to take my footwear out of my bag for several winters. Barefooting is very nice and comfortable, and if you're regularly barefoot your feet will toughen up to a point where glass and thorns aren't a problem.

Where is there beach camping near LA?

Posted in Beach Camping  by admin on November 29th, 2008

I mean REAL beach camping, on the beach in the sand, not a campground 5 miles from the beach. Thanks!

There are a few campgrounds on the beach at the north part of Malibu but if you really want to have a good beach to go to, check out Carpinteria…it's between Ventura and Santa Barbara and it's fantastic! Great beaches, fantastic snorkeling and some very cool tide pools! If you want to go the other way, there is a campground in San Clemente as well as a very very nice one down in San Onofre

Where is the best beach camping in California with a 32ft RV?

Posted in Beach Camping  by admin on November 27th, 2008

it doesnt matter if it has hook ups or not, but preffered. I want somewhere with a lot of trees but right on the beach so you can go in the water to. Any ideas?

Not sure about the other ones the previous poster listed, but San Onofre is SOOO noisy. Right on the 5 freeway between Orange & San Diego counties, and the Surfliner train tracks are like 15 feet from the campgrounds. The campsites are all up on a bluff above the ocean, and you have to hike yourself and gear down a trail to get to the sand. Sure you can put an RV on the sites, but if you want to sit at your campsite and watch the water below, be prepared to listen to nonstop freeway traffic and both Amtrak and Freight trains every 20 minutes or so. Once you're on the beach, the scenery is amazing… but people with mobility issues would have a really tough time getting down there.

Beach sites are going to be crowded all up and down the state during the summer. Best bet is to go during the winter season, or be vigilant about reserving sites online.

Doheny State Beach has some great waterfront sites. You still have some road traffic from PCH and there are trains… but if you plan it right (reserving at least 6 months in advance) you can at least park your chair in the sand next to your RV and walk straight into the water – just a hundred feet away.. .

Going Camping? Try Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground

Posted in Beach Camping  by admin on November 27th, 2008

When someone mentions a vacation in Disney world, what comes to mind? It will be Disney’s joy rides, mingling with cartoon characters and staying in luxury hotels isn’t it? Most people do not know this but you do not have to stay in expensive Disney resorts or hotels when you visit Disney World during your vacations.

If you love the outdoors and nature, then Disney World actually have a huge camping ground called Fort Wilderness Campground for tent camping, RV camping or you can stay in prefabricated log cabins which are fully equipped with dining table, kitchen, color TV with VCD/DVD players and air conditioning. Not much of an adventure camp but camping with comfort and convenience. Hey, you are on a vacation after all so why not live in comfort and experience the Disney vacation hospitality?

All camp sites at Fort Wilderness Campground are arranged in loops. There are 28 loops, with loops 100-2,000 for tents and RV campers and loops 2100-2800 offering cabins for rent. All camp sites are provided with barbeque grills, a picnic table and waste containers. No fires are allowed except in the grills and designated campfire sites.

In Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground, you can find recreational and convenient facilities such as video arcades, Disney movies, dinner theater, swimming pools, beach, water ski rental, a small zoo, payphones, restaurants, convenience stores, horseback ridings, basket ball, tennis and volley ball courts….etc You will never be left with nothing to do during your camping vacation at Disney World.

Transportation in Disney Fort Wilderness

Access to other parts of Disney World is very convenient. You can get to Magic Kingdom by boat from Fort Wilderness Landing and to Epcot by monorail. Buses serve all other Disney World’s attraction from the campground. However, the bus services at Fort Wilderness are somewhat chaotic and confusing. So you must be very careful in ascertaining which bus to take and are there any bus transfers to your destination to any part of Disney World.

For example, buses serving destinations outside the campground depart from 2 locations, The Reception Outpost and the Pioneer Hall. This means that you have to keep track of which destination each bus depot serves.

Weather Forecast during Disney vacation

While planning a Disney camping vacation and you plan to rent a tent or have a RV camp, you have to take the weather into consideration as you will be outdoor most of the time and tornadoes are known to have a preference for Fort Wilderness during tornado season. The tornado storms could be very violent if you are caught in the middle of a storm during your Disney vacation.

Usa Beach Vacations

Posted in Beach Camping  by admin on November 24th, 2008

USA beach destinations can be an excellent choice for families that want a fun-filled and relaxing vacation. Beaches offer a wide range of activities to insure the entire family will find something enjoyable during their stay.

Beach Activities

A day at the beach can include, swimming, jogging, walking, volleyball, flying kites, building sand castles, shell collecting, sunbathing, napping, picnics and best of all, relaxing. Bring a beach umbrella, beach chair, towels, sunblock, eyewear, camera, water, snacks, binoculars, a novel and don’t forget your bathing suit!

Boating and Fishing

Beach destinations often have a nice variety of boat cruises, including, nature cruises, scenic cruises, sunset cruises, , site-seeing, eco-tourism trips, kayaking adventures and fishing charters. The array of guided trips gives families a good choice of events, and there is something for everyone. For the more independent and experienced vacationer, boat and other watercraft rentals are another option.

When chartering a boat, it may be a good idea to consider the weather, traffic, and other factors, and plan ahead. Some boats can be chartered on short notice, while others may be booked up to a year in advance. Depending on the trip, season and vessel you might need sunblock, camera, insect repellent, water, snacks, a light jacket or even rain gear. Information on what to bring is typically available by contacting the captain beforehand.

On nature cruises you might encounter are any number of wildlife and waterfowl including deer, ducks, geese, herons, egrets, plovers and other shorebirds, whales, porpoises, otters, seals and more. Local guides know the best spots and are eager to guide visitors on trips that just cannot be viewed from land.

Fishing guides might fish for flounder, trout, bluefish, croakers, spot, drum, striped bass, shark, sea bass, tautog, tuna, billfish, mahi-mahi, wahoo or other fish, depending on the season, boat and destination. Other trips will feature crabbing, shrimping, clamming, or just exploring.

Crabbing

Crabbing is an enjoyable family vacation activity. Catching blue crabs does not require much in the way of equipment or skill. Crabbing can be done from a boat, pier, near bridges or along the shoreline. Crabbers need only a line, weight, bait and dip net for the traditional rig, or an inexpensive crab trap, which eliminates the need for a dipping crabs up. A more basic rig is just twine, a sinker and whatever bait you can obtain, tied on the line. The line is then lowered into the water, and gently raised once a tug is felt.

Serious crabbing baits include fresh fish, eels, bull lips and other baits but the most basic bait, chicken necks, work just as well on a hand line. The traps are used in a similar fashion, except that the trap is lifted sharply to close the doors suddenly and capture any crabs that are inside.

Crabs should be kept damp and cool and steamed as soon as possible. They are simple to cook, and can be steamed whole or chilled, then the backs removed and rinsed out before steaming. In either case, the crabs are sprinkled with crab seasoning and steamed until they are bright orange. Serve with melted butter and a cold refreshment! Crabmeat is also excellent in a variety of dishes and even freezes well for short periods.

Clamming

Clamming is a family activity everyone can enjoy on a beach vacation. Clams are easy to find, cook and handle. Locals catch clams by raking, wading, and signing. Some clamming areas can be reached on foot. Boaters can explore even more possibilities. You can also use a local guide to assist you on an enjoyable clamming trip.

Dining Out

After a day at the beach you can stop for a cool ice cream cone, have a nice dinner while watching the sunset, or visit a local niteclub.

Beach destinations are known for fresh seafood! You might find fish, lobsters, crabs, oysters, clams, mussels, scallops as the fresh catch, depending on your location. Local cuisine varies but almost every beach destination will have something for everyone.

Accommodations

Beach resorts usually offer a wide range of accommodations. Vacationers will find vacation rentals, condos, cottages, hotels, motels, inns, bed and breakfasts, camping facilities or other options.

Vacationers can sometimes get excellent

rates and availability in the off season. During the peak seasons, rates are higher and accommodations are much harder to book. Visitors are advised to check for availability well in advance in most cases.

Festivals

Festivals are often an enjoyable activity during a beach vacation. Festivals usually combine, food, shopping and entertainment in one safe and easy to find location.

The Chincoteague Island Virginia Oyster Festival is a good example of a popular Festival. The event features Chincoteague Island’s famous oysters. The festival promotes the oyster season, which includes the cooler months of fall, winter and spring. Food served includes oysters prepared in a variety of ways, clam fritters, steamed crabs, and other items. The Oyster Festival is held at Maddox Family Campground, on Maddox Blvd in Chincoteague Island, Virginia.

What is the best beach camping on the Oregon coast?

Posted in Beach Camping  by admin on November 23rd, 2008

I want to camp on, or as close to the beach as I can. Thanks

Harris Beach. It is on the southern third of the Oregon Coast and it is absolutely beautiful. It is about as close to the beach as you can get. Also, remember there are no private beaches in Oregon! The one disclaimer is that it fills up fast, so if you think you want to go, make reservations now.
