Posted in Camping Recipes  by admin on December 23rd, 2008

We are planning to cook our catch on or near the lake

best thing is to keep it siimple to get the best out of the fresh taste. wrap it in tin foil and put it on a hot rock at the side of the fire for 30 mins. or fry it in a bit of butter and lemon. or grill it, stuff it with fresh herbs - parsley, lemongrass, garlic

need camping advise and recipes?

Posted in Camping Recipes  by admin on December 20th, 2008

need help preparing for camping two days two kids never been as an adult gonna be in a tent need any suggestions at all recipes how to keep things cold etc

Coolers to keep things cold in….we usually freeze water in 1/2 gal.milk jugs to make ice for the coolers. Plus you then have water from your own tap at home to drink as the ice thaws. Also we usually freeze most meats we take with. They act as ice blocks also and will thaw for using. If you plan to grill hamburgers or hotdogs, freeze them seperately into patties and servings. They'll thaw easier for use.
Our kids loved making "hobo packs" (2x Foil wrapped sliced potatoes, hamburger, sliced carrots/celery/onion, with a bit of seasonings and a touch of oil. Cooked over the grill or campfire but need to be watched and turned several times to avoid burning. Ther are lots of websites for recipes for camping also to check out……have fun! Oh also..plan ahead in case of rainy weather and have things to do..cards, checkers, domino's etc.

What do you call this cooking device?

Posted in Camping Cooking  by admin on December 20th, 2008

It's round, made of metal, like lunchbox in size, and uses i think ethanol or methane or something like that to burn. It's called something similar to tranger or trangent. You use it for cooking while camping. Any ideas?
The fuel is a purple liquid- maybe alcohol?

It´s called trangia
I include the official web side so you can check it!!!!!!!!

Quite usefull….got one!

favorite camping recipes, anyone?

Posted in Camping Recipes  by admin on December 18th, 2008

My family loves to camp, but are tired of the same old hamburgers and hot dogs grilled over a campfire. Any suggestions? I would like recipes for main dish and also breakfasts, please. Thanks!

Pocket Stew…. Take diced potatos, carrots, onions, canned mushrooms, skinless boneless chicken or beef, spoon of butter, salt, pepper, garlic, seasoning salt. Wrap all in tinfoil and throw on the fire grate or in the coals. Make sure to wrap tightly! This is fun because everyone can make thiers the way they like it and leave out what they dont like!

Also subs…make your favorite kind of sub sandwich wrap in tinfoil and heat over fire. Also can be used to make breakfast sandwiches…put ham and cheese on english muffins wrap in tinfoil and bake over the fire.

Another great thing is if you can find some Hobo Pie-irons you can make all sorts of cool sandwiches with them and fill with stuff like ham and cheese, eggs. or jam and peanut butter..
Check them out here I recommend them for all campers! http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp;jsessionid=VRIJXNL5DK4NZTQSNOFSCO4OCJVY2IWE?id=0031806515113a&navCount=0&cmCat=srchdx&cm_ven=srchdx&cm_ite=srchdx&CM_REF=http%3A%2F%2Fca.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%3Fsearch%3Dhobo%2Bpie%2Birons%26ei%3DUTF-8%26fr%3Dks-ans%26search_type%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Frds.yahoo.com%252F_ylt%253DArJ12OkodvPMoTC2RuHZFiOzFQx.%252FSIG%253D114db5bg2%252F*-http%253A%252F%252Fca.search.yahoo.com%252Fsearch%26p%3Dhobo%2Bpie%2Birons&_requestid=54112

Another favorite of mine is corn on the cob…leave the husks on and soak overnight in salted water, throw the corn on the coals of the fire until they are cooked!! This is the best corn ever! and it goes good with baked potatoes and hamburger sticks.
Baked potato… take a potato with the skin on and slice it halfway through about 4-5 times fill the cuts with sliced onions and butter, sprinkle with salt and pepper wrap in tinfoil and throw on the coals they are done when you can squeeze them with tongs.
Hamburger sticks… take a pound of ground beef add 2 eggs, garlic, finely diced onions, squirt of mustard and some pepper mix together well. Take a peeled green stick and mold the mixture around the end and roast over the fire.

Make grilled cheese or french toast for breakfast…. Take a forked green stick and spread tinfoil between the 2 tips making it double thick…..hold it over the fire to toast your grilled cheese.

French toast.. beat 2-3 eggs with some milk and vanilla extract, dip bread in mixture making sure it is coated and fry on you tinfoil stick making sure to spray with pam first.

For dessert, Banana Boats…take a banana with the peel still on and slice it on the top curved edge at an angle from both sides ( follow the ridges on the top of banana) peel the slice out leaving the top edge attached and fill the inside of banana with chocolate chips and mini marshmallows, replace the strip of banana and skin wrap in tinfoil and throw on the coals. It is done when you can squeeze it with tongs.

Mock Angel food cake.. Take a loaf of unsliced white bread and cut into 2 inch cubes, coat in sweetened condensed milk, roll in shredded coconut, put on a stick and toast over te fire until golden brown. I love this stuff!

What are some good and easy recipes to cook on a camping trip?

Posted in Camping Cooking  by admin on December 18th, 2008

Or what do you cook in the great oudoors? My husband and I, along w.my 8yr old sister and 2yrold son are about to go camping for a week..We are mostly unpicky eaters but would like more ideas for lunch and dinner…thanks for any ideas

My dads favorite is ground hamburger diced/minced onions fried up in a cast iron pan, add a can of pork and beans and ketchup. I actually will crave this now and then. He also used to cook a lot of fish we fished when we camped so that was his main dish. try BBQ meets I don't know what kind of camp ground you are going to is it like a KOA, then BBQ steak roast hotdogs etc. if you can burn were you camp you can do the same things FOIL is awesome as a cooking utensil, wrapped potatoes in the coles same with corn on the cob, Sounds like fun wish I could go with you. Have fun
