I`m considering buying a tent and camping equipment, know any good sites to get advice?

Posted in Camping Equipment  by admin on December 23rd, 2008

I don`t know that much about it, so I don`t want just a selling site, but one which provides useful advice on the best to buy..

I like this one. `Guide to buying the right tents & sleeping bags.`

It discusses type of tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads, as well as other important items.

Where to place camping equipment?

Posted in Camping Equipment  by admin on December 18th, 2008

I’m going camping for the first time and i need to know where to place equipment, like heavier items, lighter items, clothing ect.

http://www.thebackpacker.com/articles/tipsandhow/art33.php
The method used in packing your pack depends on what type of backpack you are using. An external frame pack sits the weight differently on your back than an internal frame pack. For externals, you want the weight to sit low. This helps balance you better as you are hiking. Internal frame packs are made to hug the body more. For this reason, you want to place the heaviest items in an internal frame pack close to the middle of your back next to your body. This helps keep the weight close to your center of gravity. When most of the weight is near your center of gravity, you will be able to turn around easier without the momentum of your pack whipping you down.
For more information on packing your backpack check the included link.

Has anyone ever heard of "the camping equipment company"?

Posted in Camping Equipment  by admin on December 17th, 2008

I'm looking at a tent on ebay from the camping equipment company and I want to know if they are good tents of if I should save my money. We do a fair bit of family camping in the summer and want a tent that is fairly easy to set up and will stand up to a major rain.

Beware – be aware :)

I would say….ebay is the wrong choice for something like a tent…your tent can last you forever…it is your shelter and home while you camp and it is worth finding one you will hold onto.

Depending on where you live, there are all kinds of options that wont break your wallet. Escort is one, coleman is another (they sell them at Canadian Tire in Canada….

http://www.geocities.com/mytents1/6persons.htm

I bought one years and years ago and even though it was inexpensive, it's lasted…and I am a total gear head, I probably would have paid $2000 for one if I could have afforded it….but I got an escort for summer camping and I am happy with it.

and here is a little camping life saver I was taught….get lots of tarps, and hook em up in the trees with bungee cords…this makes the tarps float up and it's super easy….I have about 12 tarps and keep my bungees in a bucket (that I end up using for water once I am set up) and have covered my whole campsite with them (just because I love building my shelters….love love)

So…go out and shop around, love your tent :) it's worth it for you and your family. My dad had an old canvas one that I still remember so fondly.

ha ha, I sound like I am a little crazy….sorry…I just think that if everyone went camping, the world would be a better place.
