camping food ideas?

Posted in CAmping Ideas  by admin on December 23rd, 2008

im going camping this Saturday and im going for a week and im gonna have coolerss and stuff and im gonna have a firepit and a stove.
what are some good recipes, food ideas, and what foods should i bring?
Thanks

I was always in charge of the food and cooking so over the years I have learned a few things.
I'd take bagels instead of bread (they keep better)
Take potatoes, onions, garlic, green peppers etc.
these can be used for breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Take squeezable margarine, soy milk in boxes (keeps better)
Mix salt/pepper together & put in small container.
Liquid eggs are easier to keep too.
Get a small bag of REAL bacon bits, add to eggs.
Get a bottle of complete pancake mix you just add water to.
I got coffee in those foil packages, looks like a tea bag.
Brought powdered creamer and sugar packets.
Brought 2 or 3 SOS scour pads to clean the cookware, plates etc. Keep them in a zip baggy.
Took Jiffy pizza crust mix, pepperoni, and tomato paste and made pizzas on the fire using a flat rock to cook it on.
Brought tuna in packets, mayo & relish packets and had tuna salads.
Brought Pringles chips, packed in can & easy to transport.
Bring lots of Rice Crispy treats, they are foil packaged.
You really can find all you need in a regular grocery store, just think ease of use and transportability. Finally, I kept all the food in a large storage container. And if you can put the container in a vehicle at night. If you don't there will be all kinds of critters coming around trying to get at the food. Have fun!!

Any ideas on an inexpensive camping site that is near Yellowstone? Same for the Grand Canyon?

Posted in CAmping Ideas  by admin on December 20th, 2008

My family and I are going on vacation, but are wanting to camp most of the time. We want nice campgrounds that are inexpensive…like say $14 a night or maybe just slightly more. We need to find these campgrounds and reserve very quickly. We leave for vacation Sept. 4th. Does anyone have ANY ideas on where we could camp? Take into consideration that flushing toilets or shower facilities would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone who has ever camped in either of these two places, could help me out here, I would be grateful!!!

Thanks!

I can give you information about Yellowstone. You will not find anything with full hook ups in that price range. There are National Forest Camp Grounds around the park that are cheap, but no hook ups and pit toilets at most.

You can stay in the park for about $18.50 a night. No hook ups but there are nice restrooms with running water (cold, not hot) and flush toilets. There are also pay showers available at some of them. It’s about $3.50 a shower depending on if you need a towel.

Some of the campgroundsare starting to close. You should have no trouble finding a spot. We like Canyon Campground because it is centrally located in the park but it closes Sept. 7th. Others that take reservations are Grant Village, Bridge Bay (no showers), Madison (no showers), Fishing Bridge (Big RVs only), and Mammoth (no showers). Just dress warm because temps drop to the 30s and 40s at night.

The park is starting to slow down for the season, so some of the stores and facilities are closed or closing this week and next. You need to go to http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/open_closedates.htm#september and check on your dates. Might be best to go to Yellowstone first.

The best town for camping is West Yellowstone. It’s right at the West Entrance to the park. Check out some of their campgrounds at http://www.westyellowstonechamber.com/sleep/rv-campground/
They aren’t cheap :)

Have a great time!

What are some good food ideas for camping besides smores?

Posted in CAmping Ideas  by admin on December 18th, 2008

preferrably complete meal ideas, not snack ideas, I need suggestions for lunch or dinner.

Foil dinners. Just put meat (any kind, but it has to be cut or broken up into small pieces), a spoon full each of canned peas, carrots, corn, potatoes, and/or tomatoes, and a little salt, pepper, and butter in the center of a square of aluminum foil. Seal the packet by bringing up opposite side of the foil and rolling them down, then rolling up the two remaining sides. Plop the packet in the hot coals for approximately 30-45 minutes until your meat is cooked all the way through. Delish!!

Also, you can make banana boats that way, too. Peel a banana and slice it length-wise and place it on a piece of foil. Add chocolate chips, marshmallows, brown sugar, and/or a scoop of peanut butter. Roll up the foil to seal the packet and pop in the fire for 30-45 minutes, until everything melts and it's all gooey. Unroll and eat with a spoon, right out of the foil!

Hope this helps.

What are some good camping meal ideas?

Posted in CAmping Ideas  by admin on December 17th, 2008

I'm taking my 2 young kids campings for 2 nights. Preferrably healthy, easy, and requiring little or no "equipment". I already figured out fruit, smores, PB&J and hot dogs on a stick.

You can't beat Mountain Pies. Pizza mountain pies are usually a hit, especially with the kids.

Ingredients Needed for all Mountain Pies:

Bread
Butter
Non-Stick Spray

Pizza:
Pizza Sauce (About 2 tbsp. per pie)
Mozzarella Cheese - shredded
Any 'Topping' (pepperoni, olives, whatever)

Grilled Cheese:
1 slice of cheese (more than 1 you will burn yourself with melted cheese) <===sounds like the voice of experience!

Dessert:

Apple Pie Filling
Cinnamon
Brown Sugar

Cherry Pie Filling

Banana Boat Mountan Pies:
Sliced banana (one layer on bread)
4 tiny Hershey chocolate bar pieces (distributed in the center)
2 large marshmellows (9 mini-marshmellows)

Ideas for Camping Themed Bridal Shower?

Posted in CAmping Ideas  by admin on December 15th, 2008

I need Ideas for foods, beverages and decorations for a Camping themed Bridal Shower.
I am going to make a Smores Pie using grahm grackers chocolate pie filling and marshmellow fluff.
And we will hold the Shower outside in a mosquito netted tent. Other than these things I am stumped.
Yes the Bride is really into Camping, also I thought it would be something different.

Make some "Pigs in a Sleeping Bag"

Roll out Puff Pastry, thawed from the freezer section of grocery store.

Cut into rectangles, and place hot dogs on them so that yoou can wrap them, leaving one end uncovered. Bake at 350 for 10-12 min until puffed and browned.

Check out Lodge Cast Iron Cookware
A dutch oven Filled with home made chili to serve to guests, and a printed recipe for the bride would make a nice presentation, as well as a gift she could take home.

What are some fun camping ideas? #2?

Posted in CAmping Ideas  by admin on December 11th, 2008

Me and my two buddies (we are teenagers) are going camping in a few days, and we are trying to think of some interesting things to do while we are there. We can only think of three things to do:

1. Ride on the horses on the horse trail
2. Go Putt-Putt Golfing (The area is known for its golfing)
3. Have a scavenger hunt (while hiking at the same time)

Why do childish things? I live on a military base in japan, and this is a military recreational camping area…it doesn't have a fishing area, and any type of gun is prohibited, for only the secruity guards at the gate can have them.

Is there anything else we can do that can appeal to teenagers?

(sorry I asked the question over again, but I needed ideas that would be aloud in the area)

Thanks a wholeee bunch =D

GET A teepee… and live like savages… go hunting…. killl animals and wear their furs…..

What are some fun ideas for going camping?

Posted in CAmping Ideas  by admin on December 9th, 2008

I’m going camping with my family and a few friends. We are going to camp at Hershey Camping Meadow and are planning on also going to Hersheypark and Paintballing while there. Anyone have any more ideas? They don’t necessarily have to be other places of interests. They could be maybe, idk, something fun to do while at the camping site.

my kids always loved playing frisbie golf and aiming at trees that weren’t going to have over or underthrown discs landing in the other campers sites. we would go off into forrest and use triangulating to go off and explore while tossing discs ahead for scores. Another couple of good camping games is poker with dice and dominoes. But sitting back with a book one always finds time for when in a hammock or stretched out on a nice grassy area in shade…

Camping Room Ideas for a Toddler Boy?

Posted in CAmping Ideas  by admin on December 7th, 2008

Our son has a camping theme room, fairly good size room. We painted it Limey Grassy Green and it has tan carpet and white ceilings with a white ceiling fan. He has 2 giant Leaves over his light wooden twin bed (leaves are from Ikea). He has camping themed bedding and bug sheets (although I'd be interested in finding another set of the bug sheets - we got the bedding set from Target on clearance a couple years ago). He has a matching lamp with scout patches on it. He has a nightstand and a dresser with a mirror on it. My dad is making him a canoe bookshelf (either red or navy blue). He just has regular blinds on his windows right now. Oh, and a big green bug light on his wall. Along the wall that the big leaves and his bed is on, we have his name letters - navy blue from Pottery Barn Kids. Any ideas for things to put on his dresser and bookshelf? Also, we could use 1 or 2 big pictures for his wall!

How absolutely FUN! I did one of my son's room in a similar theme many years ago! His was more western, but outdoorsy just the same. I used bright red bandannas to make a valance over his miniblinds, with the points hanging down. Looked really cute.

Some camping ideas…

Cover a round hassock/footstool in a wood grain pattern fabric, or use canvas and paint it to look like a tree stump.

Old bamboo fishing poles for a valance curtain rod, hang fabric (maybe a cute fish print? Run to the fabric store!) using thin rope or string tied as loops through grommets. Old oars would work too, or new ones brightly painted, and you could staple the fabric to the back and then mount them using L brackets over the window.

I love these! http://www.collectionsetc.com/Item50462.aspx

Glow in the dark decals in the shape of stars for his ceiling? They are available practically everywhere, check Walmart!

And where are the little darling's toys going? A little pup tent or teepee maybe? Or even a small inflatable raft or canoe to match the book shelf gramps is making!

A bug rug http://www.terrysvillage.com/tvweb/application?namespace=browse&origin=categoryDisplay.jsp&event=link.itemDetails&sku=91/3276&mode=Browsing&catDestinationJSP=/browse/categoryForward.jsp?categoryId=122686

Time can be directional! Paint a round clock face to look like a compass!

Oh, dear, I'm affraid I could go on and on the more I think about it. But one thing for sure, if it's a camping bedroom he NEEDS this, LOL! http://www.signals.com/signals/Shop-By-Theme_5AA/Nature_5AM/Item_Faux-Fireflies-Jar_HA7432_ps_cti-5AM.html

Just have fun with it! I'd love to be able to see what it turns into!
