Escape the Mundane : Hot Holiday Getaways Within your Budget

Posted in CAmping Ideas  by admin on December 6th, 2008

Come Christmas and the rush of Holiday Tourism begins. Getting away, even for a weekend, is the best thing you can do to bring the family closer and celebrate a memorable Christmas.

To give you the best of the both worlds, here are some Getaway ideas to help you escape during Christmas and New Year’s.

·Mountain Getaways: The probability of a white Christmas is not being guaranteed by the Met Department this year. Ensure the traditional fervour by going out with your family to a mountain retreat. The lofty peaks of Cotswolds, Cornwall, Devon, Lake District, Scotland or Wales will make this holiday memorable. You are bound to return some time later, bewitched by these mountain peaks forever.

·Coastal Cottage Getaways - Want to spend a quiet weekend away from the crazy crowds?? Opt for a coastal cottage, which hopefully allows you to take your pet along as well. The rustic charm of the simple lifestyle will make sure that you rejuvenate and revive for the coming year. Wales (Pembrokeshire), Dorset and Norfolk are great places to rent these cottages this season.

·Skiing Nothing beats a traditional skiing holiday as far as Christmas Season outings are concerned. For a short and within budget holiday, you might choose to go to Scotland this year. While not exactly in the same class as the Alps, the Cairngorm, Aviemore Skiing Lodge is best for weekends and provides ample skiing fun for novices.

·Camping There are two kinds of campers. Ones who feel that they need all the modern comforts while enjoying this experience and ones who want to ‘go back to the basics’ so to say. No matter what kind you belong to, you will find ample delights within the limits of your pocket in a camping holiday near your home. Edinburgh, Mill Park, North Devon, England, Carrick Dhu - Northern Ireland, Isle of Mull Scotland are some of the featured best camping destinations in UK.

.Surfing For the adrenaline junkies, Surfing is the best way to let some hair down. Newquay, Cornwall, in particular has been the breeding ground for national and international surfing champions since several years. Accept the challenge and be ready to fill your ears with the roar of the waves for the year to come.

Making The Best DVD Slideshow

Posted in CAmping Ideas  by admin on December 3rd, 2008

DVD Slideshows can be a great way to take trip down memory lane. Slideshows have become common place at events and gatherings and can sometimes become boring. So how do you come up with a unique slideshow to keep people’s interest?

Below I have given some pointers to keep it interesting:

When you think of DVD slideshows you often think Wedding, Birthday or Anniversary, I have covered all three below:

• Weddings

Every bride and groom is unique and has a different story to tell. Use that uniqueness to select photos both personalized and interesting to watch. If the bride and groom are complete opposites, then use pictures, backgrounds, to show how they compliment each other.

• Birthdays

This of course depends on whether your loved one is a child or a grown adult.

For a child, this is the great opportunity to show them growing up, how they got their nickname, what are their favorite past times (sports, pets, camping, etc.). You can also select music and backgrounds that relate to their character.

For an adult, a great idea would be to incorporate notes of well wishes from past birthdays. You can also show major accomplishments from years gone by through photos, awards, music and memorabilia.

• Anniversaries

One of the best things you can do for an anniversary slideshow is to gather memorabilia that the couple has most likely forgotten about. Talk to friends, neighbors and relatives that would be willing to share photographs and other memories. Putting this into a DVD slideshow is sure to be a hit with the couple. Again, be sure to incorporate music from the couple favorite genre.

Other popular DVD Slideshow ideas

Newborn babies, childhood and family events are all great sources of slideshow subjects. Here are some suggestions to keep these productions interesting and eye catching:

• Newborn Babies

All babies are precious, but most slideshows about them are boring. To keep it interesting remember to include photos of more than just the baby; don’t forget about mom, dad, grandma, brothers, etc. etc. Another great idea is to incorporate fun facts about the date of birth (i.e. what happen on the same day 10, 50 or 100 years ago); this can be done by using carefully placed title slides within your DVD Slideshow.

• Kids

For younger children, you can help them put together a slideshow of their favorite things, using their own thoughts and ideas. Let them record a few sound bites to be included within the show.

• Family & Friends

Family vacations, camping trips, family reunions and school plays are all great contenders for slideshows. Don’t forget to include dated title slides so you’re not trying to guess ten years down the road.

So, whether you are creating a slideshow on your own or hiring a professional, keeping it creative is just a matter of detail. Have fun with this, the reward is like none other.

What are some good camping games ideas etc. , that would be able to be done in my backyard??

Posted in CAmping Ideas  by admin on December 1st, 2008

My mother has had a really depressing week, so she decided she would like to go camping to help her feel better, but the person who she usually goes camping with(my aunt) crushed the idea and i know it kinda hurt her feelings. So she decided that she would like to try camping in our backyard, it is a decent size, plenty of room and we have plenty of room for a tent, but when my mom asked her husband my stepdad, he also threw it to the flames… well when my mom asked me i jumped at it, i want nothing more than to try to help my mom have a great time which is why i am looking to see if anyone has any good ideas on fun things we can do… oh and also things that would be appropriate for my 10 yr old brother… thanx

I’m so sorry to hear that! :( I LOVE camping… in fact, I just went camping last night and had so much fun!

I think it’s a fantastic idea to have a campout in your backyard. There are tons of things you could do! Obviously, any sort of standard lawn games would be great: horseshoes, bocci ball, etc… even if you don’t have horseshoes or bocci ball sets, you could use whatever you have around the house to do basic “toss and try to hit a target” activities. Do you know the game “ultimate Frisbee,” where you throw Frisbees and try to hit different marks in order (like numbered trees, for instance)? You keep tossing from where you leave off until you hit the mark, like golf. Anyway, if you have Frisbees, you could make a mini ultimate Frisbee course in your backyard!

How about a scavenger hunt? Ahead of time, make a list of things that can be found in your backyard, or even hide extra things in the backyard that people will have to find and collect to get a prize.

Once it’s dark, everyone getting together in the tent with flashlights and telling stories is a blast. You know how sometimes people tell scary stories with flashlights under their faces? A fun version of this (that’s actually silly and not really scary) is to have one person (maybe you, as the host of the party!) to hold the flashlight, and then shine it at one person at a time. The first person has to start a story (just one that they make up), and then when you quickly shine the light at a DIFFERENT person, THAT person has to continue the story right where the first person left off. For example, you shine the flashlight at your mom, and so she starts: “Once upon a time, there was a mad scientist who lived in a castle. All day, he stayed in his lab and created gigantic purple–“ You quickly move the light from your mom to your brother, who continues the sentence: “–kittens! So, then one day, a girl scout came to the castle selling cookies…” And so forth! Lots of fun and very goofy!

I really hope that you’re able to make this backyard campout work… have a fun fun fun time! :) :) :)

Easy Science Fair Porjects - Great Topics

Posted in CAmping Ideas  by admin on November 30th, 2008

What to do and what is the easiest science fair project? Picking a topic for easy science fair projects is a huge deal for a kid, no matter what the age. There are so many different topics and ideas for all grades; you can find a great one for any child, with almost any interest!

When thinking about easy science fair projects, take into consideration your child’s interests, does he or she love birds, or hate them?

Science fair projects are easy If your child loves the topic so if your budding young scientist loves the outdoors, hiking, camping, and nature, then you might want to consider projects that relate to that. “What is Lightening” is often fun for the child whose imagination is often captured during thunder storms. Depending on the time of year, your child could build his or her own snow gauge and use it. Making a barometer is often a favorite, too.

For older children it is a bit harder. Learning about the body and how it works is something that a lot of children like to do, considering at that age many aspire to be doctors or nurses - learning about the cardiovascular system is educational, and making a scale model of a heart can be tons of fun. Also, learning about blood and studying blood related diseases is very popular, you just might surprise yourself and find that it is in fact easier that you think.

For the little computer whiz in the family, there are hundreds of easy science fair projects that tailor to their interests. In most large bookstores there is a section on building your own robot, and some are rather cheap (The robot, not the books. Although if you shop around you might find that the books are cheap too). A small, electronic gadget that your child has made is something that they will always have, and it will help build confidence in them that they can do something important, involving what they love.

A classic, but still a fun and easy activity, is making a model of the solar system using fruit - orange for the sun, apple for Mars, etc. The local library would have tons of information on this subject - just make sure there is no Pluto, who is not considered a planet anymore, but a piece of something that got caught in our solar systems gravitational field.

Projects with magnets are a favourite - making your own magnet is a very inexpensive and simple project that looks impressive. Your child could study the effects that magnets have on seedlings and their growth, or on healing.

As a parent, I am sure you want to help your child as much as possible to complete their science project - but remember that it is their project, and it is not your place to do their work for them, no matter how much you might want to.

looking for some good recipe ideas for camping?

Posted in CAmping Ideas  by admin on November 29th, 2008

I am going real camping into the wild. Just wondering if anyone knows any good ideas for new foods to eat. Rice tortillas anything dried that can be cooked in water. Any favorite recipes?

Let's see here. Dry things are good, but you have to consider something to go with them.

There are mixes, like rice-a-roni, mac and cheese, stove top stuffing, and ramen noodles that are easy to fix and taste okay.

You can cook plain pasta or rice and season them them with dry herbs or seasoning packets. You can do wonders with Hidden Valley Ranch mix and there are several other kinds of seasoning blends available.

Like mentioned by someone earlier, pancake mix is good to have along also. Be sure to use the kind that just requires water.

I don't know if you're going to have room for or be able to bring along meat, but ground beef or turkey will go along with just about anything you can put in a pot. The same goes for boneless chicken breasts. Of course, there are canned meats, like tuna, chicken, crab, vienna sausage, and deviled ham. It all depends on how much weight you want to carry around with you.

Of course if you don't mind paying $25/lb for beef jerky, that's always a lightweight alternative for meat.

Have fun.

Can you suggest some healthy food ideas for camping?

Posted in CAmping Ideas  by admin on November 27th, 2008

Normally DH and I will just have mets off of the grill, but I am trying to tone up so I don't want to eat a lot of junk. Anyone have any ideas / recipes for things to make while camping? We have a grill I can use, but we only have the fire lit after dark so I cannot cook on it.

Take some granola bars and beef jerky, if you get a chance to cook go fishing and cook up some good healthy food just be carefully with the wild creatures out their.
