Question about camping supplies?

Posted in Camping Supplies  by admin on December 7th, 2008

Well I'm going to camp with the 6th grades and the camp name is called "Camp Hightrails" and i want to ask some question……
If i'm going to camping which one should one should I take?Duffel bag or Suitcase? Also i dont know what other supplies look like so acn anyone give me a link? Here are the list of stuff where i dont know where to buy…………

Duffel Bag (large)

Long underwear (tops&bottom)

Hiking shoes/snow boots/boots (i'm not sure if it is all of the boots and stuff…..)

Light weight shoes

Jacket/Poncho waterproff

you see these items are the ones that i dont know where they sell them or what they look like………and i also need to know where they sell sleeping bags..
Just to tell you i live in California……..So it would great if you guys show me the link of these items and where they sell them……. also here is the site if you want to know the packing supplies so you can tell me. http://www.camphightrails.com/Packing%20List%20Dis
The other link doesnt work on the top so use this official homepage one……

http://www.camphightrails.com/

To see the packing supplies click parents and supplies on the right

and please i really need help on this!!!

You can get all this stuff at any big super store, for not a lot of money. The big camping/outdoors stores are nice, but pricey for a first timer. Use a duffle, not a hard suitcase. Easier to pack and stow. A duffle bag is a soft sided bag, like a gym bag. Long underwear, or longjohns, in men's dept. Ask for help. Hiking boots in shoe dept. You don't need to spend a lot. Light weight shoes are sneakers or tennis shoes. In camping dept. you'll find rain ponchos, folded in packages you can toss in your duffle bag. You'll find a sleeping bag, too. Try to get one rated as low (low temperature) as you can, in case it gets cold, and in case you want to use it in cold weather. If it is going to be cold, you can get a fleece sleeping bag liner to slip inside your sleeping bag. Some sleeping bags come with built in pillow. Don't forget a flash light, and batteries. Tooth brush and toothpaste, shampoo, soap in one of those plastic containers. Wash cloth, towel. Bathing suit if you're swimming. You'll find it all at the superstore, like Target or Wal Mart, or Kmart, or Ames, or Myers, or whatever you've got.

Mt. Shasta – From Golf to Skiing to Spirituality

Posted in Camping Supplies  by admin on December 6th, 2008

One visit to the Mt. Shasta area in California will convince you that it is truly a vacation destination that will appeal to almost anyone, from golfers to skiers, and yes, to those seeking a more spiritual path.

Mt. Shasta is home to, well… Mt. Shasta, a 14,179-foot volcano, the second-highest peak in the Cascade Range. Yeah, it’s big. And beautiful. And, some claim, home to a vortex which attracts “New Age” types. A drive down Mt. Shasta Blvd. in Mt. Shasta City reveals a vast array of spiritual shops and assorted healers. You can buy singing bowls and tuning forks, divination tools, yoga supplies, vibrational sprays and magical jewelry. You find can all types of spiritual healers, such as those offering psychic hypnotherapy, reflexology, Reiki and energy work, vibrational healing and massage. If you’re into mineral baths, you can drive a few minutes north of Mt. Shasta City to Weed, where you’ll find therapeutic mineral baths at Stewart Mineral Springs (530-938-2222).

Those of you wishing to take vortex tours are definitely in luck, as there are numerous guided tours to choose from, including Shasta Vortex Adventures, which offers Mt. Shasta Guided Tours all year round. You can choose from guided hikes, healing earth journeys, bus tours and winter outings, such as snowshoe, cross country or telemark ski outings. Call them at 530-926-4326 for more information.

For those seeking outdoor activities and adventure, Mt. Shasta does not disappoint, no matter what season in which you’re visiting. During the warmer months you can hike or visit the many lakes which dot the area, including, of course, Lake Shasta, 10 miles north of Redding, the second largest lake in California, after Lake Tahoe. Shasta Lake is a very popular destination for boating, water-skiing, camping, and fishing. They also claim to be the houseboating and wakeboarding Capital of the World. Lake Shasta is also home to the Lake Shasta Caverns, which is open all year round. In order to view the underground caverns, visitors are taken on a 15-minute catamaran cruise across Lake Shasta, where they then board a bus which carries them up a mountainside, more than 800 feet above the lake, where the caves are accessible. All this for only $20; $12 for those 3 to 15. Call 1-800-795-CAVE for more information.

If the size of Lake Shasta is too overwhelming for you, as it was for me during one visit, you might want to visit a smaller lake near Mt. Shasta City, Lake Siskiyou, a 430 acre recreational and sailing lake, which offers some of the best bass and trout fishing in Northern California. You can purchase a cheap day pass and swim, picnic or rent pedal boats, or you can rent RV or camping space, or a cabin at Lake Siskiyou Resort and Camp (1-888-926-2618). The resort is open April 1st – October 31st and is very family friendly, with a great swimming area, sandy beach, and nightly movies in an outdoor amphitheater. The lake is actually closer to Mt. Shasta than Lake Shasta, and you can swim with the beautiful snow-covered mountain looming in the backdrop.

Close to Lake Siskiyou you’ll find Mount Shasta Resort, home to a championship golf course, as well as luxurious cabins and a day spa.

Skiers will delight in skiing Mt. Shasta at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park, where you’ll find 31 trails on 425 acres of skiable terrain. Night skiing is also provided on 14 trails and 3 lifts. The terrain level of difficulty is 20% beginner, 55% intermediate, and 25% advanced. There is also a cross country ski and snowshoe center for those wishing something other than downhill skiing. And for beginners, the ski park offers ski, snowboarding and telemark lessons.

Whether you’re looking for a place to get pampered, a place to enjoy the outdoors, or a place to explore the metaphysical, Mt. Shasta does truly have it all.

What are the supplies ill need for camping and what are some funa activities to do while camping?

Posted in Camping Supplies  by admin on December 5th, 2008

Tent with a good rain fly (get one with a fly that comes down close to the ground. It really keeps the rain out.)

Some sort of pad to cushion your sleep. A closed cell foam pad, or an inflatable air mattress, or a camping futon are all good. A cot is good, too.

Lantern…battery only in tent. Propane is good for outside, as it casts a better light…but never take a flame in your tent.

Sensible clothes for the weather you expect.

First aid kit. Sun screen. Hat. Boots and sneakers. Camp chair. Firewood (buy locally…don't transport firewood.) Fire starters. Knife.

Food. A means to cook it, such as a camp stove or hotdog skewers or pie irons or a dutch oven or a campfire grill, etc.

Keep food in cooler or locked in car. NO FOOD IN TENTS.

A good book. Have fun!

How To Organize Your Garage

Posted in Camping Supplies  by admin on December 3rd, 2008

You have a two-car garage and you do not know how long it has been since you were able to park your car in it. Every time you open the garage door or go in there to get something that is stored there, you always vow to yourself that you are going to get to work and organize it once and for all.

Well, today is the day, you have a plan and you are going to put that plan in place to get the garage organized. The three steps involved in your reorganization plan are to clean out the garage, lumping and using storage accessories.

Clean Out The Garage

The basic first step in organizing your garage is to clean out the entire area. This means that everything needs to be taken out and placed outside. It is important to temporarily store the items away from the entrance if you anticipate watering down the floor.

This will give you an opportunity to evaluate all of the contents that were stored and assess each of the items. This assessment takes into account what is needed and what is not needed. Once you have made the separate piles, it is important to haul away the unneeded items to the dump, have a garage sale or give away the items to a not-for-profit thrift store.

Once you have removed all the items out, it is then important to clean. This cleaning can be accomplished by sweeping out the floor area, perform high dusting and watering down the cement floor.

Lumping

Once you have cleaned out the garage and have determined what items you are going to keep, the next step is to lump together those items. This lumping should keep in mind those items that naturally fall together in their use. Examples of these categories would be gardening tools, items associated with your vehicle, tools used around home, etc.

Also, if clothes or seasonal items will be stored in the garage it is important to gather those items together as well.

Storage Accessories

The third step involves placing all of these items that you are keeping back into the garage using organizing accessories that are available. For example, you could mount pegboard on the wall and use that storage area to place your tools and keep them located in one specific area. Another example of storage accessories is the use of large plastic tub containers. These containers could hold seasonal clothing or seasonal items. These seasonal items could be holiday decorations, camping supplies etc.

Also, you can anchor shelving to the wall and use those areas for storage. Or, perhaps, you may choose to simply purchase and build a strong cabinet that can be used to store items neatly.

Finally, it is important to remember why you are cleaning the garage. It is not just for organizational purposes, but to provide room to house your automobile. When organizing, be sure that you keep this important factor in mind and provide adequate room for your car to be stored.
