Are there any really good places to go camping in New Mexico or Southern Colorado?
There are some really nice places in the mountains on the west side of the state, near Quemado, Reserve, in the Gila wilderness.

Looking for some awesome trails in Colorado. Anyone have any suggestions???
Here is what we are looking for:
- 2 nights and 3 days
- base camp
- a day to a high altitude peak
- a hike down a canyon/gorge (lakes,rivers, waterfalls)
- Prefer a trail that loops back into where we started with a good distance for a 2 day hike
- we are planning starting in Mid June
Any suggestions???
Hey Denny, last Oct we took a trip to Estes Park and did some hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. Estes Park is right outside of the park, it is a cool toursty town but still pretty quiet as far a tourists go. We did some hiking in the park with a nice couple hour hike to Emerald Lake as an easy acclimation day (See the link below, Bear Lake link has info on this hike). There were 3 glacier lakes in a span of 4 miles, very cool hike. We did not bag a 14'er but opted for Flattop Mountain. However, if you are into 14'ers you could bag Longs Peak. Start early in the morning to beat the thunderstorms. I also know there is over 200 miles of trails in RMNP.
Here is a great website fo rthe hikes in RMNP

My son is going to Red Rocks over Labor Day weekend for a concert. He camps in a tent. Where should he stay and how much are the camping fees? Has anyone had good/bad experiences at Red Rocks?
It looks like the choices are limeted. And its first come first server so he better get there early. I didn’t find anything on the prices.

would like to camp near waters edge.
Poudre river hi-way 14 north of fort Collins, did this trip 4 or 5 years ago had had a blast campgrounds all along the way (privet, state and national forest) did a lot of fly-fishing with my boy a Summer I’ll never forget.
I wanna get away this weekend…
no
If I were camping out in the middle of nowhere, and set up a camp to do some gold hunting… Stayed out there for several weeks.. How could I do this without getting in trouble? I would need to set up camp near the river I am prospecting.. And I dont see anyone having the discipline to follow all those rules about keeping anything with scent in a bear protective container for a couple weeks on end.
How do you pull something like this off without getting into trouble with bears or rangers.
One of Colorado's appeals is the mineral belt through the state…and the vast majority of it is in national forests and or BLM..camping is this country's coolest asset as far as I'm concerned.
'Bear country' is a relative term…they aren't exactly politically correct in there ways and means. If you pitch camp in a bears kitchen, you'll probably have company.
Keep a clean camp..'hang' your kitchen every knight.. be overly careful with your fire - enclose it if you can.. sleep 30 or 40 yards from where you cook and eat.
..keep a couple pots or pans in your tent in case you do get a visitor in the night-loud noise is pretty effective dissuading a bear form becoming assertive or aggressive in the dark..
..rangers might spot your fire smoke, and come check you out..there is a 14 day 'stay' policy here..then you will be told that you need move 15 miles befor pitching another 'camp'..it's a good policy..comply with it.
..Smoke watchers could spot your smoke as well..there are still 'Look-Outs' maned and attended around these outter countrys forests, and EVERY sign of smoke is checked out…ether by a ranger, or chopper, or plain.
..there are maintained 'claims' scattered through out these whole mountian ranges, not that they are frequently monitored, but they are lagitimet claims.
The bears are a 'varriable'..seeing one will depend on how well you camp…the rangers are an absolute..your fire will bring them..thats is just how things work out here.
I always go camping and ATVing. But I want to be able to do this next to a good fishing spot as well. I am stationed at Fort Carson, so if some one knows a good place I can do all three that would be great.
Consider taking the weekend off to go experience the Black Canyon Of The Gunnison just East of Montrose, Colorado. There you will find gold medal waters for some of the best trout fishing you can hope to find in the state. Just south of that is BLM lands with dirt roads cris-crossing about the real estate, and North of the town you can find some real interesting area locally called "The 'Dobies" with roads traveling up and through some pretty neat areas for ATV adventure. There are countless areas to camp on as well, and in Montrose, you will find a number of great sources for information on you favorite activities including fly shops, RV dealers, sporting goods dealers, and some super places to eat if you don't have time for campfire meals. (I recommend The Golden Corral for all you can eat steak and more.) I wish I could join you, but I guess you're on your own. Have fun!
i know its not warm enough here to go camping yet but i would like to know where is a good spot to go in colorado? that has a lake to swim in?
guenella pass its free. its in georgetown and its really nice up there. you will love it. there is also a lake but you have to go down the trail that you drove up. the camping spots are pretty secluded so you wont have to worry about being over crowded with people you dont know.
Wondering if anyone has camped in the Cuchara, Colorado area campgrounds and whether they are a good camping spot or not–like to hike and nontech mtn climbing
OK
