I am looking for a family camping vacation package…affordable and fun?

Posted in Family Camping  by admin on December 13th, 2008

I want to find a family vacation package for 2 adults and 2 children that includes lodging, activities, and food for under $2000, anyone have any suggestions? Any where in the US is fine.

I found this a lot of fun.

The Florida Everglades National Park/Biscayne National Park/Elliot Key Island.

I started out by camping at Flamingo Campground/Florida Everglades for 3 days. I rented a kayak and paddled the mangrove forest.

Then, at Biscayne. I took a boat over to Elliot Key Island from Biscayne and camped on the island for 3 days. There, I was able to snorkel the shallows and enjoy the coral reefs off of Elliot Key.

WARNING: If you snorkel. YOU MUST USE A RED DIVING FLAG. (A person was snorkeling without a diving flag while I was there and died because a boat did not see him) Walmart has/had a snorkeling kit for 20 bucks(flippers, mask & snorkel)

ALSO, I recommend doing the Everglades during the late winter/ early spring when the bugs and heat are not as bad.

AND FOR GAWD SAKE. DO NOT PLACE YOUR CHILD ON A ALLIGATORS BACK WHILE THEY ARE SUNNING ON THE ROAD. (true story – saw a tourist place his 4 year old son on a alligators back for a photo opprotunity.

Elliot Key only has access by boat or seaplane. There are NO stores on the island. SO, you have to pack in/out your food and water. Pack food in air tight containers. Racoons on Elliot Key are master thieves. I had my breakfast muffins tied up in a tree. The racoons still got them.

3rd RFTS S03 E25- When Aliens Camp (3/3)

Posted in Family Camping  by admin on December 12th, 2008

Dick takes the family camping as a mission bonding activity. At the campsite, the family and Mary all become angry with Dick — the family because he lies about bringing Mary along after he tells them it’s “family only,” and Mary because he tells her the family doesn’t mind she’s coming along. After they all cast him out, Dick goes off by himself and attempts to form a new society with a troop of Beaver Scouts he encounters. The Solomons ume Dick is lost and set out to find him. They (especially Sally, who resents her command being usurped) initially reject Mary’s offers of help in finding Dick… until they realize she knows a lot more about the outdoors than they do.

Seagulls Flog To Seahouses

Posted in Family Camping  by admin on December 12th, 2008

Situated on the North Northumberland coast makes Seahouses the ideal base from which to explore the Scottish Borders and the hills and coastline of this magnificent part of England. It stands on the edge of the North Sea eight miles south east of Belford.

By road the directions to Seahouses is provided from the north and south of the country by the A1/A1M and the B1340. Alternatively, the A69 and A66 via the M6 offer good links to the A1 and B1340 for those travelling from the west.

By rail there are two railway stations close to Seahouses, Alnmouth and Berwick upon Tweed. Alnmouth is approximately sixteen miles south of Seahouses. Berwick is approximately twenty three miles north of Seahouses. Both stations are on the main Kings cross London to Edinburgh line. The companies offering services in the area are Great Northern Eastern Railway, Northern Spirit and Virgin Trains.

By coach the National Express provide city links to Newcastle and Edinburgh. Local bus or train routes may then be used to reach Seahouses.

There is a Ferry Terminal at North Shields with connecting services to Scandinavia, Netherlands and Germany. The terminal is approximately fifty miles south of Seahouses. The Newcastle Metro operates from North Shields into Newcastle Central railway station and the Haymarket bus station each providing convenient onward travel to Seahouses.

The two nearest airports are Newcastle and Edinburgh. Newcastle International Airport is approximately 50 miles south of Seahouses. Edinburgh is approximately seventy miles north of Seahouses.

The town offers a huge variety of activities for visitors. It is the departure point for boat trips to the Farne Islands and a centre for sailing, diving and fishing. A walk around the busy harbour is one of the highlights of any visit and is traditionally done with a bag of fish and chips. However you must watch out for the seagulls. Theres a sandy beach to the north, which gets busy in summer. In fact, the sands run unbroken from Seahouses to Bamburgh providing an enjoyable walk for the more energetic visitor.

In 1998 a sea festival was set up and Berwick Borough Council supported it. The festival proved popular and has continued since. It attracts people from a wide area as well as the local population. On Harbour Hill there is entertainment to keep you enthralled whilst enjoying the views.

A wide range of accommodation for visitors to the area from a weekend break to family holidays. Theres accommodation of every type caravans and camping, to guest houses, bed and breakfast and hotels is easy to find something within your price range. The main street includes gift shops, tea rooms and amusement arcades. A lively place and welcomes a large number of holidaymakers each year.

I'm seeking recommendations for family camping Lake Chelan, WA?

Posted in Family Camping  by admin on December 11th, 2008

We're new to WA. We'd like to plan a weekend family trip to Lake Chelan. Our children are 9 and 15 years-old. They're interested in spending a day at Slidewater's – so we'd like to be nearby. I'd love to hear your recommendations for family camping and must-see/do activities. Thanks for your time.

Lake Chelan State Park & I also like the 25 Mile Creek State Park. Both are not too far from Slidewaters. The park in Chelan is a nice place to relax, you can rent jet skis and boats from there, there is putt putt golf and go-karts. Spending a day on the lake with a rented boat is a fantastic time!! Most boats come with inner tubes and water skis.

Less Than 150,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Units Sold In The Usa During 2006

Posted in Family Camping  by admin on December 9th, 2008

With the introduction of the first Grand Cherokee, Jeep defined and created the luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) market, but in spite of this grand tradition the model is currently experiencing some difficulties. Jeep not only defined what an SUV was, it was the SUV market in the USA with the inception of the Cherokee and later on Grand Cherokee. This is no longer the case. The growing list of strong competition has intensified, and along with high fuel prices, this has lead to some serious challenges to Chrysler in spite of Jeep’s combination of legendary 4×4 capabilities, on and off-road refinements, and technological innovations.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee was one of the pioneering SUVs that ushered in the modern SUV market in the early 1990s. When it debuted, the Grand Cherokee represented a bigger and more refined version of Jeep’s smaller but popular Cherokee. The company’s designers wanted the Grand Cherokee it to be maneuverable enough for city driving, roomy enough for the whole family, stylish enough to take out on the town and rugged enough to reach those remote camping areas. The Grand Cherokee certainly met all of these requirements and, we feel that Jeep continues with this tradition in its current Grand Cherokee version.

The 2005/2006 version of the Grand Cherokee, which is the model’s 3rd generation, is one of the best SUVs made, and as one critic put it “arguably the most desirable”. With some of the outstanding available features of full-time four-wheel drive, independent front suspension, rack and pinion steering, a five-speed transmission, and an available 5.7-Liter HEMI V-8 with MDS, which deactivates up to 8 cylinders when not needed for better gas mileage performance, the Grand Cherokee is featured packed. Safety features include Electronic Stability Program, SmartBeam ™ headlamps that automatically and quickly adjust high-beam brightness and intensity, All-Speed Traction Control System, and advanced multi-stage air bags with an Occupant Classification System. The look and feel of the body was also updated to give it an edgy angular look, which looks new and contemporary while retaining that Grand Cherokee style with the famous 7-slot Jeep grille. Chrysler also gave the Grand Cherokee an updated suspension system that delivers better corning turning performance and a tighter turning radius.

In spite of these top-of-the-line features, Grand Cherokee sales in the USA for 2006 (ending December 31, 2006) were 139,148 units, which were down from 213,584 in 2005. This represents a decline of 35%. Jeep’s smaller SUV, the Liberty, also saw its numbers drop dramatically in 2006 with unit sales of 133,557 versus unit sales of 166,883 for 2005, a 20% decline. While it doesn’t necessarily make Chrysler feel any better, they were not alone in decreased sales in the SUV segment. Other USA car manufacturers also experienced declines. Ford experienced a 25% drop in its SUV sales for the USA, while GM’s truck sales were down 9.6% (2,499,269 for 2006 versus 2,765,809) (detailed performance reports for GM’s SUVs was not available). The decline in SUV sales, especially mid-range models, was affected by the dramatic price increases in gasoline during 2006. This along with luxury SUV models by BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, and Porshe, and mid-priced SUVs by Mitsubishi, Toyota and others experiencing a surge in popularity is creating a sizable challenge to Chrysler. With its outstanding features, Jeep tradition, and the Daimler-Chrysler technology behind it, we look for the Grand Cherokee to make a strong return in the future.

What is the best family camping tent? Experienced campers are needed!

Posted in Family Camping  by admin on December 9th, 2008

I would like to purchase a family camping tent for my husband and kids – only problem, I don’t know ANYTHING about camping! I know I would like a 2 or 3 room tent, but I would like to be able to stand up in the side rooms. Some of the tents I have looked at it appears that you must “crawl” into the side tents. Is this a common thing? Also what do you suggest I purchase as necessities along with the tent? Sleeping bags, cots, stove? Any help is greatly appreciated, again I have never in my life camped so this is completely new to me.

What are some things that you find essential for camping? Things that you don’t leave home without???

Does anyone have any information on family camping areas in southern california

Posted in Family Camping  by admin on December 9th, 2008

I’m looking for family friendly places to camp in southern california or central california, or not too expensive cabin rentals. Swimming, fishing and hiking would have to be included as well.

There is a book called California Camping by Tom Stienstra. It is the camping bible you might say. Anyways, it list all campgrounds in California including RV places, tent places, and even back packing places. He tells what each campground has, where it is, and rates the quality too. Bes book ever. I have the book, but I am too lazy to start looking up campgrounds in Southern California as they have so many. Another place to look is Reserve america on line.
