When do boy dogs start hiking their legs to pee?

Posted in Hiking  by admin on December 23rd, 2008

My Boston Terrier is almost 5 months old, and squats to pee. When do they start hiking their legs? Does he need a boy dog to show him how?

Depends on the dog. Most will be by 1-2 years old, but some never do and some will earlier. My adult male doesn't hike at all, but my adult female hikes! It's an individual thing. While your dog may start in the next year or two, he also may not.

What do people think and talk about during hiking in group?

Posted in Hiking  by admin on December 20th, 2008

I'm currently writing a novel and a big chunk of the story is spent in a hiking-like activity . The characters, a group of 6 people need to get from one place to another.
But how do I fill in those places with chat and inner feelings and conflict? What sort of thing could arise within a group that is hiking?
Different personalities? Different ways to solve a problem?

when my girlfriend and i go hiking….we try to find a place that is nice and quiet, with a nice view..usually from there…we just spill out our thoughts…from what we did wrong in the past..to what we're going to do for our future (we would ask ourself..are we going to make it?)… for me, i had a troublesome past..grew up in a bad neighborhood..bad parents…no good friends…but now that i'm older…i try to sort out my thoughts….hiking is the best way to let it out..

Is there any good beginner hiking trails in the Smoky Mountains via Gatlinburg?

Posted in Hiking  by admin on December 18th, 2008

Will be in Gatlinburg for a 1 full day next month. I want to bring my girlfriend and 3 teenagers hiking in the Smoky Mountains. Where is a good beginner trail? Maybe in the 3 mile range.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park -Hike
"Abrams Falls Trail", in Cades Cove. A fairly easy 5-mile trek (round-trip) that is ideal for the beginner or a family. Plan on roughly three hours, depending on your pace. Check the included link to get more information and to see the map.

How to Create a Better Life – Part 5

Posted in Hiking  by admin on December 18th, 2008

If you want to create a better life, you will have to do things that you are currently not doing. Many of these things will be first time experiences and may have certain amounts of risk involved.

Some of these risks could be things like starting your own business, stepping out of your comfort zone, dropping down guards in your life, etc. Not everything that you set out to do will succeed the first time you try. That’s why it’s so important not to dwell on failures or mistakes that you will make.

You may be afraid to pursue a better life because of past hurts or failures. While these things can be devastating at times, you can’t let them stop you from living a better life. If you are wondering if you will make mistakes in the future, let me answer that question, yes, you will!!

Don’t be afraid of past or future failures. Some of the greatest things that have been done is this world are a result of failures. Thomas Edison says this, “Just because something doesn’t do what you planned it to do in the first place doesn’t mean it’s useless…. If I find 10,000 ways something won’t work, I haven’t failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is often a step forward….”

In other words, don’t dwell on failure. If you are constantly looking in the past you will never be able to see the future.

You should always try to minimize your risks by planning ahead and doing your due diligence. However, don’t stop yourself from moving ahead in life because you are over analyzing everything. You won’t always know if what you are doing will work. That’s why it’s called taking a risk.

A prime example of someone who was determined to live his best life no matter what is a person by the name of Warren MacDonald. Warren had to have both of his legs amputated above the knee when a 2,000-pound bolder fell on his legs in a hiking accident. Most people would have been very understanding if he had chosen to never do anything adventurous again in his lifetime. Some would have even understood if he became depressed and lived out the rest of his life living within the safety of his home and never doing anything of real importance.

Warren never let such things even enter his mind. As a matter of fact, 10 months after his accident, he became the first double above knee amputee to climb Africa’s tallest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro!

To have a better life, don’t be afraid to take some risks. Don’t let past failures or the fear of future failures stop you from living the best life that you can possibly live.
