What are you prepared to give up for the environment?

Posted in Recreation Vehicles  by admin on December 5th, 2008

I recently posted a question about vehicles used for recreation that use gasoline unnecessarily. From some of the replies I got it was obvious that some people didn't get the unnecessary part, comparing the small amount of gasoline used by, say skidoos , with necessary fuel burners like trucks. I feel guilty myself. I am long retired yet I own a car in a city with adequate public transportation. I own it because I can and don't want the inconvenience of taking a bus. My point is that we are going to have to do something sometime to avoid a catastrophe and if it takes government legislation to stop us burning diminishing fossil fuels unnecessarily and contributing to global warming and air polution. Future generations [if they are able to survive at all] will curse our memory. We are in a very serious situation.

Nothing. There is nothing I can do, and there is nothing you can do. We are tiny, powerless human beings. We have no influence. Someday soon, God will shake up this little ant farm called Earth, and it will all be over anyway.

I would like to verify that a motorcycle registered in Florida is not required to have insurance?

Posted in Recreation Vehicles  by admin on December 1st, 2008

I was told because a motorcycle is a recreation vehicle it's not mandatory to have insurance on it

Strange as it may sound, you're right, there is no "required" insurance for Florida motorcycles.

However, as others have pointed out, let's imagine you have an accident. The judge says you're at fault and you've injured 3 people to the tune of 20,000 each. You also caused a 35,000 car to run into a ditch and totaled it completely. Where's that money coming from? Your pocket. You'll have to flip lots of hamburgers to pay off that bill!

As an alternative, you can buy some liability insurance to protect yourself.

Another point to consider – what about your own injuries? While it's not required, you can buy protection for your own medical bills in the event of an accident.

Sit down with an insurance professional and price out some options. Even if you decide not to buy the policy, at least you'll know what the consequences of your actions are.

Ride safe!
