This video was made by Old Goat to be used in a presentation he made about Thru Hiking the AT. It’s a great summary of whats involved in an AT Thru hike. You can read about his hike at his trail journal located at: http://trailjournals.com/chipsadventure/

I dream of hiking the AT some day, not any time soon though, unless I win the lottery. XP

Dropped our son off …
Dropped our son off at AT headquarters in Harper’s Ferry on 6/23, then found your video on a blog a friend of his had started. Can’t tell you how grateful we are for your contribution to our understanding of the “when nature calls” appeal. T-Bone has kenneled Marky a while to restore hiking condition & will flipflop upon reaching Katahdin; but he’s enjoying the experience and Brotherhood of the AT so very much. With sincere thanks to you for your wonderful video (music, too!), T-Bone’s folks.

“How can you not …
“How can you not work for 5 months to go hiking?” – save up the money while you’re working.
“What employer just lets someone go hike for 5 months?” – mine’s giving me 7 months leave. If you’re a good employee sometimes its amazing what you might get if you just ask. Alternatively, if you’re a bad employee, quitting is always an option.
“I’d like to do this” – I said this to myself for years, then I realized the only thing stopping me was myself.
Just go.

How can you not work for 5 months to go hiking? What employer just lets someone go hike for 5 months? I’d like to do this – hiked yesterday from Clingman’s to Siler’s Bald and back. Are you retired?
