When do boy dogs start hiking their legs to pee?
Posted in Hiking by admin on December 23rd, 2008
My Boston Terrier is almost 5 months old, and squats to pee. When do they start hiking their legs? Does he need a boy dog to show him how?
Depends on the dog. Most will be by 1-2 years old, but some never do and some will earlier. My adult male doesn't hike at all, but my adult female hikes! It's an individual thing. While your dog may start in the next year or two, he also may not.

When they learn it from another dog.
Some never do…which is usually my hope with my dogs.
Leg lifting irritates me.

Yeah, some never do. I've had 3 male dogs, none of them did that.

My dog, Andy, didn't lift his leg until he say another boy dog lift his leg when he was on a walk one day, he was 2-years-old.

Mine started @ about 6 mos.
Was told by the vet if he did not start lifting his leg before he was neutered, chances are, he never would….don't know how true that is…just thought it was interesting.

My 11 1/2 yr old male Shih Tzu squats if he uses the papers but lifts outside. Our female only goes outside and sometimes she squats, sometimes lifts.
